The competition was fierce. Grande and Mediano were teamed up and ready to go. Markers in hands and excitement on their faces. They attacked that blank poster board and turned it into a masterpiece. Don’t you see it?
The instructions were to draw a character from Sesame Street, but my boys like to blaze their own paths so they drew. . . If you know them at all you’ve already guessed. Dinosaurs! If you know them a bit more you can easily tell which dinosaur was drawn by which boy. Here’s a hint. Grande’s favorite color is red and Mediano’s is blue. If you really know them like I do you can even tell what kind of dinosaur each one drew. The red one is a T-Rex and the blue is a Triceratops.
Don’t feel bad if you couldn’t tell all that by just looking at the picture. After all Grande is only 4 and Mediano is 2. And at that age it’s not likely you’ll be able to figure out what they say or draw without knowing them.
Sometimes to understand the masterpiece you have to know the artist.
Do you know the Artist?
Really? When you read Jeremiah 29:11, do you struggle to see the hope and future God has for you when your life looks like the scribbles of my sons. Do you see Him in you? Working each day to make the mess a masterpiece? Can you get a glimpse of His heart? I did today. In Psalm 34.
And knowing the Artist is my one hope and my one mission in this masterpiece he is creating, what we call life.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11
The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
Psalm 34:10
The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them;
he delivers them from all their troubles.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
The righteous person may have many troubles,
but the Lord delivers him from them all;
he protects all his bones,
not one of them will be broken.
Evil will slay the wicked;
the foes of the righteous will be condemned.
The Lord will rescue his servants;
no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.
Psalm 34:17-22

I’m always so inspired by your perspective! “do you struggle to see the hope and future God has for you when your life looks like the scribbles of my sons.” Yes. Way. Too. Often.

You always give me something to think about…love your posts and happy to see you back…and that art…created by one so loved by God….that he gave him to a special Mom to guide him….toward the son of the God most High!

And now, I’m crying. Thank you so much for writing this post. My masterpiece is a mess right now, and I can’t see how it will “tidy up.” I’ve been struggling all week to look at the Artist rather than the mess, and those verses were perfect reminders to keeping my focus on Him.
